Kentucky Derby & Kentucky Oaks | Churchill Downs, Louisville
April 30 – May 1, 2027

Experience the Kentucky Derby

Known as “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports,” the Kentucky Derby is one of America’s most iconic sporting events and a bucket-list experience unlike any other. Held annually at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, Derby weekend brings together world-class horse racing, Southern tradition, signature fashion, and legendary race-day hospitality.

The celebration begins with Kentucky Oaks Day on Friday, known for its signature pink traditions and exciting racing, before culminating on Saturday with the Kentucky Derby and the Run for the Roses.

From Mint Juleps and statement hats to the energy of Churchill Downs as the horses race toward the finish line, Kentucky Derby weekend is about much more than a single race—it’s a complete Louisville experience.

Highlights

  • Attend both championship days at Churchill Downs — the Kentucky Oaks on Friday and the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
  • Reserved seating at one of the most in-demand sporting events in the United States, arranged through MAC Sports Travel rather than the public lottery.
  • Accommodation in Louisville during Derby Week, when hotel availability is at its tightest of the year.
  • A dedicated MAC Sports Travel host on site throughout your stay to handle logistics and share insider guidance.
  • Experience the traditions that make the Derby — the garland of roses, the mint juleps, and Derby Week fashion.

The Kentucky Derby 2027 — The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports

The Kentucky Derby is the first leg of the Triple Crown and one of the most prestigious horse races in the world. Three-year-old thoroughbreds race one and a quarter miles at Churchill Downs in roughly two minutes, which is how the race earned its nickname.

The Derby is also known as the Run for the Roses, after the garland of roses draped over the winner. The Kentucky Oaks, run the day before, is the equivalent championship for three-year-old fillies and draws crowds that rival the Derby itself.

Derby Week is as much a social occasion as a sporting one — mint juleps, bold hats and seersucker, and eight days of racing that build toward the first Saturday in May.

2027 Kentucky Derby & Kentucky Oaks Dates

The 2027 Kentucky Oaks takes place on Friday, April 30, 2027, followed by the 153rd Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 1, 2027. Both races are held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, bringing together world-class horse racing, longstanding traditions, fashion, and race-day hospitality.

2027 Kentucky Derby Week Schedule

Kentucky Derby Week features multiple days of racing and special events at Churchill Downs leading up to the main event. The schedule includes Opening Day, Sunday Funday, Dawn at the Downs, 502’s Day, Winsday, Thurby, Kentucky Oaks Day, and Kentucky Derby Day.

Most Kentucky Derby travel packages are built around Oaks Day and Derby Day, while Thurby can also be incorporated for guests looking for an extended Churchill Downs experience.

Kentucky Derby Seating & Hospitality

Churchill Downs offers a variety of ways to experience the Kentucky Derby, from reserved outdoor seating and premium hospitality to luxury dining rooms, private suites, and general admission areas.

Depending on your group size and preferences, MAC Sports Travel can customize your Kentucky Derby package around the seating and hospitality experience that works best for you.

Kentucky Derby Tickets & Travel Packages

Demand for Kentucky Derby tickets is exceptionally high each year. Rather than arranging each element of the trip separately, MAC Sports Travel offers complete Kentucky Derby travel packages combining race-day access with accommodations, transportation, hospitality, and additional Louisville experiences.

Packages can be customized for couples, small groups, corporate groups, and larger private parties.

What to Wear to the Kentucky Derby

Fashion is one of the most celebrated traditions of Kentucky Derby weekend. Guests often embrace colorful spring looks, statement hats and fascinators, seersucker, bow ties, and other classic Derby-inspired styles.

Kentucky Oaks Day is traditionally associated with pink attire, while Kentucky Derby Day is the perfect opportunity for bold colors, standout hats, and classic Southern race-day style.
